William Benjamin Saltsman

William Benjamin Saltsman, age 98, of Sebring, passed away on March 18, 2023 at Crandall Medical Center.

He was born on October 30, 1924, in Alliance to Roy and Mary (Clark) Saltsman.

Bill graduated from Alliance High School in June 1942. After graduation he attended Mount Union College until leaving to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was stationed in the South Pacific for two years.

Upon returning to Alliance, Bill learned the carpentry trade and was employed by Kintz Construction Company and KinMac Homes. In 1949 he began his career as a U.S. Postal Employee. He served initially as a letter carrier and supervisor before ultimately being appointed to Alliance Post Master in 1976. He served in that position until retiring in 1985.

Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his favorite pastime was golf. He was a member of Alliance Country Club for 28 years and enjoyed playing golf several times a week. He was a member of the Alliance First United Presbyterian Church, former member and President of Alliance Kiwanas Club, Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 1036 and a Life Member of The National Rifle Association.

Those left to cherish his memory are his step-children, Cynthia (Douglas) Cunningham of Alliance, Scott (former wife Vickie) of Minerva, and Donald (Candy) Hume III of Bangor, CA; his step-grandchildren, Michael Cunningham, Amy (Jason) Scott, Bill Hume, Donald (Rachel) Hume IV, Emily (Doug) Haidet, Amber Hume and Greg Thayer; step-great-grandchildren, Jake Scott, Ava Scott, Maddison Seison, Cody Hume, Madison Hume, Harley Hume, Devyn Hume, Levi Hume, Kaisyn Haidet and Adam Thayer.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 33 years, Kathryn (Long, Hume) Saltsman; his previous wife, Maxine (Mummert) Saltsman; step-daughter, Sandra Thayer; step-granddaughter, Michelle Thayer; and a step-great-grandson, Kody Thayer.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
