Richard L. "Dick" Livengood

Richard L. “Dick” Livengood age 94, of Alliance, passed away at 10:23 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2020 at McCrea Manor.

He was born February 7, 1926 in Alliance, Ohio to Ira Lloyd Livengood and Marie (Ruffner) Livengood.

A graduate of Alliance High School, Dick attended Canton Business College, and served during WWII with the U.S. Army.

He retired in 1987 after working as the Office Manager at Grove Refrigeration.

Dick was an active member of First Christian Church, where he was a member, past president and co-hospitality chairman of the Christian Men’s Fellowship. He was a member and former chairperson of the Stewardship and Finance Department. He was member and past-president of the 4C’s Class and served as a Deacon for many years. He was also the recipient of the Volunteer of the Month Award.

He was a member the American Legion, United Commercial Traveler’s and Past Senior Counselor, member of the Alliance Senior Center, the YMCA and was a past-president of Alliance Toastmasters.

Dick was active with Boy Scout Troop 56 of Beechwood, serving as Neighborhood Commissioner.

He enjoyed bowling and was the treasurer for the Swinging 60’s Bowling League.

Dick also enjoyed gardening, camping and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Doris M. (Day) Livengood, whom he married July 23, 1949; children, Brett (Cathy) Livengood, Nancy  (William) Eby and Sally McDaniel; daughter–in-law, Gloria Livengood; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Mayer, and Joyce Shull.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Carol Galbraith and Margery Turner; brothers, Jerry Livengood and Donald Ruffner; and son, Mark Richard Livengood.

A memorial service will be held on September 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior. The family asks that those attending the service wear facial coverings and maintain social distancing when possible.
