Marilyn J. (Mougey) Horning, age 83, of Alliance was surrounded by loving family members when she passed away at 1:10 p.m. Friday February 19, 2021 at Stone Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care. She was born on July 27, 1937 in Alliance, Ohio to Harry and Nettie (Masters) Mougey.
She graduated from Alliance High School in 1955 and then worked for Dr. David Howell, DDS. She was later employed by Ohio Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator and supervisor where she met her future husband, John Horning. They were married September 22, 1962.
Marilyn was a life member of Christ United Methodist Church. She and her late husband, John, spend countless hours canning and freezing the bounty from their large garden which they shared generously with family, friends and neighbors. Family was especially important to her and she was devoted to caring for nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed hosting large family gatherings throughout the years, Favorite pastimes included, reading, music, shopping and eating out.
Survivors include her brother, Edward H. Mougey of Frederick MD, brother-in-law, Leon “Pete” Otteson of Westerville, OH, sister-in-law, Doris (Horning) Scott of Kent, OH and 23 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John who passed away June 29, 2013; and her sisters, Grace (Mougey) Kulieke, brother-in-law, Frederick Kulieke, sister, Evelyn (Mougey) Riley, brother-in-law, Richard Riley, sisters, Eleanor Mougey and Carol (Mougey) Otteson, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Roelke) Mougey.
Due to COVID 19, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank Stone Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care and Elara Caring Hospice for their loving care of Marilyn.
Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
