Leah Iris Andrews

Leah Iris Andrews, age 81 of Sebring, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Community Care Center.

Iris was born October 26, 1940 in Latham, Ohio to Luther and Lorna (Reeves) Scowden.

She was a graduate of Stivers High School and Wright State University.

Iris was a member of Union Avenue United Methodist Church and PEO.

She embodied the true meaning of being a Christian, as she was an advocate for all humans. Affectionately known as “The Church Lady”, Iris served as a District Lay Leader in Tuscarawas District, was very involved with Church Women United, United Methodist Women, including serving as a lay member of general jurisdictional and annual conferences. She also served on the East Ohio Conference Board of Layity. Iris loved singing to the music at church, including solos, duets, choirs, and enjoyed playing in the bell choir.

She also enjoyed cooking new recipes, photography, knitting, sewing, reading Amish mystery stories, cardinals, and daisies.

She will be forever loved and missed by her family, including her husband, David L. Andrews, who she married August 21, 1965; her daughter, Barbara J. Andrews; her son, Steven K. Andrews; grandchildren, Grace L. Andrews and Steven R. Andrews; brother, Lynn Scowden; sister-in-law, Lura (Bob) Orr; brother-in-law, Roger Andrews; nieces, Allison Scowden Haltom, Jessica Scowden Terry, Katrina Orr, Suzanne Orr Hoff, Alex Andrews; and several great niece and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her niece, Gwendolyn Andrews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration to honor Iris will be held at Noon Saturday, October 1st at Union Avenue United Methodist Church, 1843 S. Union Avenue, Alliance, OH 44601 with Pastor Coralee Cox officiating.

Family and friends may visit from 10 a.m. until Noon at the church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Avenue United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Habitat for Humanity, 1006 S. Arch St. Alliance OH 44601.
