John P. “Jack” Rowe, age 89, of Alliance, passed away at 3:43 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at his daughter’s home.
He was born January 20, 1931, in Hornell, New York to Frank W. and Dorotha V. (Hepworth) Rowe.
A 1948 graduate of Williamsville High School, Jack received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1952 from the University of Michigan and in 1961 his PhD. in Metallurgical Engineering (GO BLUE!!).
Moving to Ohio in 1962, Jack started his career with B&W Research Center as a metallurgical engineer. Later he transitioned his career path to teaching, as a professor at Kent State University, a career he continued until he was 80.
Jack was a member of the Beechwood United Methodist Church, where he sang in the church choir and for many weddings in the Alliance area.
He was instrumental with the creation of the Mount Union Choral, and remained active for many years.
A member of the Washington Township Fire Department, he was also a longtime volunteer of the Alliance Area Red Cross.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannine E. (Draper) Rowe whom he married June 20, 1952; children, Paula S. Hochradel of Alliance, Jody M. (Tom) Sivy of Louisville, Thomas W. (Kristin) Rowe of Akron and Mary K. (Jeff) Marszal of Elyria; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Bob.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh, Michigan.
