Haven A. Ackley

August 1, 1944 — September 27, 2021

Haven A. Ackley, age 77, of Alliance, passed away suddenly at 4:13 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021, sitting on her front porch enjoying a lovely weather day.

She was born on August 1, 1944 in Alliance to Bernard and Mildred Taylor.

A 1962 graduate of Alliance High School, Haven was a member of her High School Reunion Committee for more than 50 years. She enjoyed the committee’s monthly get-togethers.

Haven managed People’s Book and Yarn Shoppe in Mt. Union for many years. She learned how to knit in one lesson, made lovely sweaters and afghans her family will cherish. Haven was an avid speed reader and when People’s closed she fulfilled her dream of owning her own bookshop and opened The Book Haven. When Haven’s book business closed another fun chapter of her life began assisting customers at Figenschuh Jewelers downtown Alliance, she thoroughly enjoyed working with the Figenschuh brothers until they retired.

Haven’s final job before she retired was assisting the Alliance Area Chamber of Commerce with whatever the staff needed.

Giving back to the Alliance community was important to Haven she enjoyed volunteering at Feed My Sheep Ministries and New Beginnings House of God. She served on the Salvation Army Board, the Mayor’s Commission on Aging, AARP, Neighborhood Crime Watch Group and Alliance Lions Club where she currently served as secretary. Haven looked forward to helping the Lions Club with their annual Rose Day fundraiser and enjoyed participating in the Lion’s Club yearly elementary eye screening program.

She is survived by sisters, Terri (Richard) Hoff and Janis (Tom) Williams; two nieces; one nephew; three great nieces; and three great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ed Ackley, whom she married May 27, 1972 and her parents.

Graveside Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2021 at Fairmount Memorial Park Cemetery, 4199 S. Union Ave., Alliance.

In lieu of flowers, Haven’s family would prefer that donations in her honor be made to Feed My Sheep Ministries/New Beginnings House of God, 114 E. Main Street, Alliance, Ohio 44601 or the Alliance Lions Club, 520 E. Main., Suite 200, Alliance, Ohio 44601.

Arrangements are entrusted to Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home 75 South Union Ave Alliance, Ohio 44601.
