Gwen Martha Liverett, age 71, passed away peacefully at her home at 10:34 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2022.

She was born December 5, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio to George Burdick and Agnes (Karlson) Burdick Young.

A 1969 graduate of Marlington High School.  Gwen attended Milligan College in Tennessee.

She retired in 2001 from Marlington Local Schools after serving as the School Secretary at Marlington Middle School.

Gwen was the recipient of the John Liber Service Award during her senior year of high school, was best known for her active support of the schools programs, and was named an Outstanding Alumni. She was a founding member of the Marlington Alumni Association.

She was a member of Marlboro Christian Church, where she was active in the choir, Women’s Guild, Vacation Bible School. Gwen was a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Leader, and dedicated volunteer.

A member of the Marlboro Volunteers, and Sew Happy Quilters, Gwen enjoyed quilting, dulcimers, presenting talks on Civil War quilts, and women in the Civil War. She led the Flying Geese group, and most importantly loved doing things for and with her family, including going to her peaceful place at Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains.

Gwen lived by the quote by Scott Hamilton “The only disability in life is a bad attitude.”

She will forever be loved and missed by her family, including her husband, of 51 years, Thomas E. Liverett; daughters, Corrie A. (Brent D.) Schneider, and Jennifer M. (Jim B.) Bixler; grandchildren, Marta L. (Zach Mucklo) Bixler, James T. (Josie) Bixler, Rebecca A. Bixler, Ryan D. Schneider, and Daniel T. Schneider; great-grandchildren, Lindy L. Mucklo, and (on the way) Wrenly Mucklo; sisters, Sara McGuire, Cathy (Duff) Beamer; brother, John Burdick; and sister in law, Connie Burdick.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Paul Young; brother, Tom Burdick; grandparents, John (Elizabeth) Burdick, and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Karlson; aunt and uncle, Fred (Martha) Alderman; and brother-in-law, Ed McGuire.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 12th at Marlboro Christian Church, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Marlboro Christian Church with Pastor Eric Crites officiating, and Pastor Ed Carter assisting.

Gwen will be laid to rest at Marlboro Cemetery.
