Glenn E. Lipely, age 89, of Alliance, passed away at Brookdale of Alliance on Thursday August 6th.

He was born in Alliance, on March 2, 1931, to Howard and Loraine (Allmon) Lipely.

Glenn was a 1949 graduate of Alliance High School who went on to Yale University (Class of 1953).

Even during his quest of higher education, Glenn served his country honorably in the United States Army.

He was an academic who thirsted for knowledge and went on to achieve his master’s degree from Kent State University (Class of 1966), and also studied at the University of Notre Dame, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Montana.

Glenn went on to a career in teaching and coaching,  a professor in mathematics and tennis coach at Malone College, retiring in 1995 after 28 years of educating young adults.

After his retirement from academia, Glenn became a realtor with Cutler Real Estate in the Alliance area.

He was a member of Alliance Evangelical Friends Church, followed by membership at The Community Bible Church. Glenn also was a member of several clubs and organizations including Yale Alumni Association, MENSA International Society Sigma Zeta Honorary Society, Toastmasters of Alliance, Alliance YMCA, Life member of O.E.A., Conrad Masonic Lodge, Stark County Association of Realtors, Christian Math Educators Association, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

He enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and racquet ball.

Those left to cherish his memory are son, Kevin (Kathy) Lipely; daughter, Pamela (Troy) Miller; six grandchildren, Katie (Brent) Barnes, David (Shannon) Lipely, Haley (Mark) Brigham, Addison, Garrett, Elyse Miller; and seven great-grandchildren; and his wife Rebecca whom he wed in 2004.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Catherine A. (Long) Lipely, whom he married September 28, 1957 and who passed away in 1999; brother, H. Bruce Lipely.

Memorial contributions may be made in Glenn’s name to Malone Alumni Association 2600 Cleveland Ave NW Canton, Ohio 44709 or to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Chapter 70 W. Streetsboro St Suite 201 Hudson, Ohio 44236.

Funeral service will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Tuesday August 11 at 1:30 p.m.  with family sharing. Visitation will be held one and half hours prior. Interment will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park.
