Elizabeth (Waselkov) Burge

Elizabeth Waselkov Burge, age 96, of Sebring, Ohio died Wednesday, March 18, at Crandall Medical Center.

She was born November 8, 1923 at the family farm near Moreland, south of Wooster, Ohio to Carl and Martha (Cutter) James. She attended Wooster High School and the College of Wooster, and helped the war effort at Seiberling Co. repairing auxiliary gas tanks for B17 bombers.

She earned a Master’s degree in library science at Western Reserve University, and worked as a school librarian in New Philadelphia, Willowick and Euclid, Ohio and as a volunteer librarian at Copeland Oaks in Sebring.

She was a member of the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and several education organizations. She loved to read, travel, and do needlecrafts, especially quilting, and jigsaw puzzles. For many years she and husband, Rev. Donald Burge, served on the United Methodist Disaster Response Team, helping people devastated by hurricanes and floods.

She is survived by sons, Gregory (Lin) Waselkov of Stockton, Alabama and Gary Waselkov of Cape Coral, Florida; stepdaughter, Vicki Ferrero of Massillon, Ohio; stepsons, William (Alma) Burge of Ft. Myers, Florida and Russell (Monica) Burge of Dover, Ohio; grandchildren, Katherine, Nicholas, and Peter (Catherine) Waselkov; six step grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alexander Waselkov, on June 11, 1983 and second husband, Donald Burge on September 7, 2012; sister, Margaret James; and brother, John James.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, once a dissipating pandemic permits social gatherings, at Copeland Oaks Bennett Chapel with Chaplain David Parry officiating
