Dr. Barry Penturf

January 2, 1953 — December 29, 2021

Dr. Barry W. Penturf passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on December 29, 2021.

Born in Alliance on January 2, 1953 to Norman and Bernice (Mulinix) Penturf he lived most of his life in Alliance, Ohio.   A 1971 graduate of Alliance High School, Barry was proud of his participation on the Alliance Aviator’s Football team.  He was a 1976 graduate of The Ohio State University where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the young age of 23.  Barry was a Captain in the U.S. Army serving as a dentist from 1976-1978.

In 1978, Barry returned to Alliance to open his private dental practice and served thousands of patients for 43 years until his death.  Barry was an honest and caring practitioner and his mission statement was “to treat every patient as though they were family”.  He was affectionately known to many as “Dr. Barry”.  He worked tirelessly to serve others, often seeing patients after work hours to treat dental emergencies.  He loved his patients and practice and felt it was part of following God’s calling to serve others.  He was most proud of sharing his practice with his twin daughters, both of whom are dentists and joined his practice as partners in 2011.

A loyal and enthusiastic Ohio State Buckeye fan, Barry enjoyed attending OSU football games.  He loved being outdoors taking care of his farm, gardening, woodworking, skiing, fishing and boating, especially on Lake Erie.  Barry adored his four grandchildren and delighted in sharing with them the wonders of God’s creation. They loved fishing in his lake, searching for crayfish, picking apples from his orchard, gathering pumpkins and produce from his massive garden and cutting down Christmas trees from his farm.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ron; and step-son, Patrick Sano.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn (McCallum) Penturf; his loving daughters, Dr. Stephanie (Drew) Shealy and Dr. Ann (Chuck) Kesterke; and beautiful grandchildren, Jake, Alex, Adam and Charlie; step-son, Andrew Sano; sisters, Susan (Gary) Potts, Darla Davis, Janet (Dewayne) Frank; father and mother-in-law, Jerry and Mary Kay McCallum; brothers-in-law John (Laura) McCallum and Matt (Ben) McCallum.

Barry was a member of Science Hill Community Church where he served on the consistory board.  He was a peaceful man and lived a life of faith.  He loved the Lord and shared the Word with others.  His mantra in life was to follow the Golden Rule. He was the model of love, forgiveness, and trust in Jesus Christ to all those who knew him.

Although our hearts are broken we take comfort knowing that Barry is rejoicing in heaven, and in the promise that we will join him again one day.  Proverbs 3:5 “Trust the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding”.
