Obituary

Donald Akers Boyce, age 94, passed away on August 12, 2021.

He was born February 1, 1927 in Alliance, Ohio. Don was the third child of ten born to Robert and Elsie Wiley Boyce.

At sixteen, Don started working at Taylorcraft during WWII and was hired as a specialist welder at B&W Research where he received commendations for his work from the U.S. Government for work done on the U.S. nuclear submarine, Nautilus. He retired after 27 years to go to truck driving school and was known on the CB as Mr. Bumblebee. Don was later stationed at the Chanute U.S. Air Force base in Chicago as an Airman First Class where he was an electrician during the Korean Conflict. After his marriage in 1958, he worked at Clem Lumber Wholesale, retiring again after 18 years.

Don loved fishing for bass and was a Bass Master lure tester. As a young man he spent many happy days on hunting trips with his father and friends. Don loved spending time with nature and working outdoors; he spent the time waiting for fish to bite enjoying nature’s beauty. He was also nicknamed the “Cookie Monster” by his children and loved his cookie stash.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joan (Shutler) Boyce whom he married on August 24, 1958 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alliance; his son David (Cynthia) Boyce, Diana (Daniel) Cullen, Dale (Angie) Boyce; twelve grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Dawn Marie Boyce.

A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Wednesday, August 18th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tim Muse officiating and a visitation two hours prior. Interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park with military honors.
