Charles "Chas" Winner

February 8, 1956 — April 8, 2022

Minerva

Charles E. “Chas” Winner, age 66, of Minerva, passed away at 12:16 a.m. Friday April 8, 2022 at the Cleveland Clinic.

Charlie was born February 8, 1956 in Alliance, Ohio to Edward C. and Ruth Evelyn (Lowmiller) Winner.

A 1974 graduate of Alliance High School, Charlie owned C&W Construction, installing commercial playgrounds for more than 30 years. His passion for the outdoors led him to owning and operating Hedgerow Game Birds where he provided game birds to many throughout the Eastern United States.  He loved hunting, fishing and gardening with his family and friends.

Charlie was a kind and generous person whose personality and work ethic influenced many. He was a firm believer in donating his time completing projects large and small for the Alliance Aviators. He loved supporting the Aviator Sports Boosters by helping maintain sports fields and installing sprinkler systems and drainage systems, to name a few. In 2003, Charlie built the interior wrestling room, which is still considered one of the best in the area today. His devotion to all sports led him to be the recipient of the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s State Award.

Charlie was proud to be able to complete an important bucket list item by building his daughter Hannah’s house with his son-in-law, Chase, and with the help of family and friends. He truly led by example, and his memory will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren and the many others that held him dear.  His infectious smile will never be forgotten.

Charlie leaves his large and loving family who will miss him deeply, including his wife Cindy (Twyman) Winner, whom he married August 8, 1980; sons, Dennis Z. (Allie) Winner, Joshua C. (Shaena R.) Winner, daughter, Hannah R. (Chase) Melaragno; grandchildren, Dennis, Raelyn, Ezabel, Reese, Harper, Quinn, and one on the way; sisters, Patricia A. (D. Stephen) Stone, Ruth Eva (David ) Williams, and Katie (John) Weitzel; and many nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents.

A time for visitation and sharing memories will be held from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
