Violet Pauline Jorney

November 21, 1930 — March 22, 2021

Violet Pauline (Hampu) Jorney, age 90, of Alliance, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021, at the Crandall Medical Center in Sebring after a long illness with Alzheimer’s and congestive heart failure.

She was born November 21, 1930, in Alliance Ohio to Andrew and Ioana (Oancea) Hampu.

A 1950 graduate of Alliance High School, Violet was formerly employed at the Alliance Manufacturing Company for ten years as a “gun girl” assembly worker, where she met her future husband George. They were married for 58 years when he passed away in December 2016.

Violet and George were married in 1958 and starting in the mid 1960’s Violet worked on the Jorney Mink Ranch with George for over 40 years—interrupted briefly by 5 years of work at the Armor abrasives in Alliance in the mid 1970’s. On the mink ranch, Violet helped on the ranch during busy seasons and she also did bookkeeping and financial record work for the farm until she began caring for her only grandchild Elizabeth Ostadali in 2001 during the day until she started kindergarten.

Violet was a lifetime member of the St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church and choir member.

In her spare time Violet loved to bake—she was always an expert pie baker, often using fruits and berries grown on the farm–either freshly picked by her husband or what she had preserved or frozen for the winter months. She also enjoyed spending spare time with George at their lake house on Leesville Lake and riding on their pontoon boat.

Survivors include her son, Jeffrey (Jim Govoni) of Bowie, Maryland; daughter, Justine Ostadali (Allen) of Homeworth; one grandchild, Elizabeth Ostadali; her sister, Janice Corbi of Columbiana; and many nieces and nephews.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Ioana Hampu; siblings, Andrew Hampu, George Hampu, and Elaine Harp, Mary Nutial; and her husband, George Jorney.
