Terry Lee Hariston

Terry Lee Hairston, 65, of Alliance, OH, gained his wings on March 17, 2024. Although he battled various illnesses, he maintained a love of life.

Born on August 19, 1958, Terry and his twin Jerry were born to loving parents, J.Z. and Beverly A. (Smith) Hairston. Terry graduated from Alliance High School in 1976 and immediately enlisted in the United States Army. He served the country for 8 years total with an honorable discharge after working in the personnel department. Terry explored many countries during his military career. 

During his young adulthood, Terry was well traveled from coast to coast. Terry worked various jobs including Columbia Gas, cook, construction and various other positions.  Soon, he returned to his hometown, Alliance, OH, to care for his parents until they ascended. 

Terry loved working in the yard, fishing, bowling, listening to old school R&B, and spending time with his beloved pet dog, BJ. Terry’s true passion was his family. He truly enjoyed spending time at Mount Union lakes contemplating the wonders of his world. His numerous family members will cherish days spent laughing and sharing memories.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jacqueline, twin brother, Jerry, and brother, Julius. 

He is survived by four remaining siblings, Sonya (Donald) Wood, Louis Hairston, Samuel Hairston, and beloved sister, Angel Hairston. Terry had special lifelong relationships with many extended family members including Kenneth (Charlotte) Toney Jr. and Carl Lawson Jr. A host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends will deeply miss his love of his heritage, humor, catch phrases, motivation, and love. 

Terry Lee Hairston’s life and deep commitment to family is a model for how to care for one another.  

A memorial service will be held at Cassady-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Monday, March 25, 2024 from 1–2 p.m.
