Sharon Marie Mathey

Sharon Marie Mathey, age 70, of Alliance, Ohio died July 31st, 2026 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born November 27, 1955 in Alliance and spent much of her childhood in Mississippi and Illinois as her father served in the U.S. Air Force. She attended Kelvyn Park High School in Chicago before her family returned to Alliance where she graduated from Alliance High School in 1974.

In 1986 she married Dean Mathey and they moved to Homeworth, Ohio where they raised two sons. Sharon spent time as a stay-at-home mom but was also known in the community for working in service to others at Stark County Community Services and Children’s Village.

She was a faithful Christian, serving her church as an elder, member of the choir, and in mission projects. She enjoyed sports and especially liked her Buckeyes, Browns and Indians. Sharon loved old movies and was an avid reader. Spending time with children gave her much joy, whether it was babysitting, teaching Sunday School or chaperoning at her sons’ various school activities.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband and their two sons, Jason Snyder of Alliance and Trevor (Addie) Mathey of Coraopolis, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Margaret Snyder.

Visitation will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Thursday August 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at Middle Sandy Evangelical Presbyterian Church 4306 Homeworth Rd. in Homeworth on Friday August 7th at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
