Ruth Elizabeth (Williams) Thompson, 86, of Yukon, WV having resided in Lexington, NC the past four years, passed away on February 25, 2013 after a short illness. Ruth was born in Caretta, WV on September 29, 1926 to the late Ollies and Alberta (Stroud) Williams. Ruth attended Excelsior High School in War, WV. Ruth was a domestic engineer who also enjoyed writing, playing bingo, making financial donations to non-profit organizations, and serving as a mentor mother to over 200 children. Her extended children called Ruth by several names (Mama Ruth, Mrs. Ruth, Mama T, or Granny). Ruth was a member of Rose Bud Baptist Church in Excelsior, WV where she served as Recording Secretary and Treasurer and later joined Pilgrim Home Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, WV. Ruth never met a stranger and everyone fell in love with her sweet spirit. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, the late Thomas W. Thompson on May 31, 1984. Ruth is survived by three sons: Pastor Bobby (Joyce) Williams of Alliance, OH, Thaddeus (Fran) Thompson, and Terry (Michele) Thompson of Columbus, OH; seven daughters: Carol Miles and Esther (Michael) Rogers of Alliance, OH, Elder Alberta Thompson of Columbus, OH, Maxine Phillips of Raleigh, NC, Jacqueline McFarland of St. Albans, WV, Sherry (Carlton) Mobery of Lexington, NC with whom she made her home and Cleo Morgan of Dunbar, WV; twenty-three grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Juanita Lemons of Detroit, MI and Gladys Westbrook of Alliance, OH; one brother: Johnny Woods of Williamboro, NJ; one sister-in-law: Rose Woodson of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Ruth is preceded in death by one son Thomas W. Thompson Jr. and one daughter Beverly Ann Thompson; two son-in-laws: Thomas Miles and Gregory Phillips; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers; three sisters; one sister-in-law; and three brothers-in-law. Visitations and the funeral service will be held on March 2, 2013 at New Beginnings House of God/Feed My Sheep Ministries. Pastor Bobby Williams will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the funeral at Alliance City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Davidson Funeral Home of Lexington, NC and Cassaday-Turkle- Christian Funeral Home of Alliance, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ruth's name to Hospice of Davidson County in Lexington, NC. The family of Ruth E. Thompson wishes to thank everyone for their acts of kindness.
