Ruth E. Dilworth

Ruth Elizabeth Dilworth, age 92, of Alliance, died at 12:00 a.m. January 15, 2007 at Altercare of Louisville. She was born Nov. 21, 1914 in Salem, Ohio to Charles and Mabel Irene (Greenamyer) Smithyman and lived in Alliance almost all her life. Mrs. Dilworth graduated in 1933 from Alliance High School, and graduated from Alliance Business College in 1934. From 1934 to 1961, Ruth was the Executive Secretary to C.J. Rodman and Assistant Secretary of the corporation of the former Alliance Ware Inc. She then worked as an Executive Secretary to A.P. Taber and H.H. Poor at Babcock and Wilcox Research Center in Alliance until retiring in Dec., 1979. A member of First Christian Church, Ruth was also a member of Quota Club, past president and secretary, and past secretary/treasurer of the 6th District Quota International. She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter #296 and Amaranth, member of Alliance Area Republican Club, Alliance Historical Society, YWCA, and Alliance Association of Secretaries, where she was a charter member and founder. Ruth also was a Notary Public from 1945 to 1988. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Sandi (Fred) Jones of Canton, Michigan, Jana Ruth (William) Achbach of Broomfield, Colorado, and Charles Robert Smithyman of Boulder, Colorado; great-nephew and niece Tim & Sze Jones, of California, and great-niece, Heather Achbach of Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Smithyman, and husband, L. Duane Dilworth, whom she married Sept. 9, 1972, and who died June 20, 1995. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Pam Bruno and Sue DeHoff officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 1140 W.
