Richard C. Hanna, age 79, of Alliance, died at 6:01 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Aultman Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born September 13, 1927 in Lisbon, Ohio to Clyde V. Hanna and Myrtle M. (Horn) Hanna-McPherson and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Hanna graduated from David Anderson High School in 1946 and then received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Mount Union College in 1958.
He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and a veteran of the Korean War. Richard then owned and operated his own trucking company for 14 years and subsequently worked in industrial sales for 21 years. He then returned to the trucking industry, retiring from Kuntzman Trucking in 2004.
Richard was an avid reader with interests in history, politics, sports and nature, but most of all, he loved to spend time with his family.
Mr. Hanna was previously an active member at Christ United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle (Brock) Hanna whom he married Oct. 24, 1947; daughter, Patricia J. Eckert of Alliance; son, Bruce C. (Joan) Hanna of Manitowoc,WI; and daughter, Jill (Bill) Rowland of Grandview Heights, OH; grandchildren, Jacob Eckert, Jon Hanna and Megan Hanna; sister, Marjorie (Jim) Starkie of Hamilton, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Leroy 'Shorty' Hanna.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Sams officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
