Ramona Jean Middleton

June 22, 1929 — November 15, 2025

Ramona Jean Middleton (née Lacher), 96, of Alliance, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025.

Born on June 22, 1929, in Alliance, she was the beloved daughter of Arthur and Mildred (Marshall) Lacher.

A faithful woman with a generous spirit, Ramona was a longtime member of Bolton Methodist Church, where she joyfully sang in the choir for many decades. Music was woven into the fabric of her life, and her love of singing was shared by her son and carried on by several of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ramona lived a life rooted in family, service, and simple joys. She married the love of her life, James Middleton, and together they spent summers exploring the United States in their RV, collecting memories along winding roads. At home, she could be found tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, identifying birds from her kitchen window, or curled up with a good book. She was known for her caring heart, often helping those in need as a caregiver and organizing donations for others whenever help was needed.

A sharp, competitive card player with a surprising lead foot behind the wheel, Ramona delighted loved ones with her quiet humor and her famous deviled eggs—always the first dish to disappear at both Marshall-Barnes and Middleton family reunions, which she loved to attend.

Ramona began working in downtown Alliance at a Five and Dime store before building a respected career as a highly skilled bookkeeper for Alliance Ware, later Crane Company. Her work ethic and attention to detail were admired by all who had the pleasure of working alongside her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; her sisters, Wanda O’Brien of Tampa, FL and Nadine Strait of Sebring, OH; and her brother, Eugene Lacher of Alliance, OH.

Ramona is survived by her son, Gary Middleton and his wife, Ida Servantes of Bryan, Texas; her grandchildren Melissa Middleton, Marisa Maldonado, Danielle Middleton, and Richard Middleton; and her four beautiful great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her later years. Ramona will be remembered for her warm heart, strong faith, and generous spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and song that will live on through the family she cherished.
