Pettie Shields

Pettie Shields, age 77, passed away on May 30, 2026. She was born on December 15, 1948, in Batavia, Ohio, to Jim and Jan (Mulligan) Hodges.

Pettie graduated from Batavia High School and attended The Ohio State University. She was the director of youth choirs, administrative secretary and member of vocal and handbell choirs at Christ United Methodist Church for many years.

Pettie enjoyed gardening and playing card games, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Lewis Shields; children, Eric (Christian) Shields and Kimberly (Jason) Handy; sister, Jennifer Elliot; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, J. Michael Hodges and Kelly Hodges.

A memorial service will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Friday, June 5th at 3:00 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior. Pastors John Partridge and Chris Martin will officiate.
