Opal Ruth went to be with the Lord peacefully on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Salida Woods, Mentor, OH.
Opal was born May 30, 1920 in Homeworth, OH to Hiram and Pearl (Heffner) Heestand. On March 22, 1941 she married Charles F. Ruth, Jr. in Bisbee, Arizona.
Opal was a homemaker for many years and later worked for Armours and Robertson's Plumbing and Heating.
Opal was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Alliance for over 59 years. She was a member of the Women's Circle, Shy Violets, Stephen Ministries, Sisters and formerly served as an elder. She was also a member of the Elks Auxiliary, Alliance.
Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie Homan of Napoleon, OH; son, Charles (Bonnie) Ruth of Willoughby, OH; granddaughters, Heather Homan and Abby and Katie Ruth; great-grandsons, Brady Kolodziejczyk and Ben Homan; and many nieces and nephews.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles; brothers, Olin J. Heestand and Leo Heestand; and sister Helen DeRhodes.
The family extends special appreciation for the loving and skillful care given by the staff at Salida Woods and the staff of Hospice of the Western Reserve as well as to Tom and Esther Fowler for their friendship and spiritual care.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave., Alliance, Ohio with Pastor Tom Fowler officiating.
A private burial will be held at Mount Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to First United Presbyterian Church, Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Road, Mentor, OH 44060 or to Salida Woods Assisted Living, 7685 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor, OH 44060.
