Odell Young

Odell Young, age 87, passed away on January 28, 2024. 

He was born on December 25, 1936, in Gilbertown, Alabama, to Winston and Laura (Exer) Young.

Odell worked for American Steel Foundries for 34 years until his retirement. He was a very active member of New Zion Baptist Church; Odell served on the Usher Board, Trustee Board, was a member of the kitchen committee and helped cook the Men’s Fellowship Breakfast. He also did landscaping and ground maintenance at the church and drove the church bus. He belonged to the ‘Brothers of the Hammer’. Odell enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Winslow (Robbie) Young, Robert (Debbie) Young, and Lowell Young; two sisters, Kathy Davis and Vinnie Jones; four grandchildren, including a special grandson, Trevon Young; five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; cousins; and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bertha Jean Mason; sons, Tyrone Young and Torain Young; six brothers, Elliott, Lovell, Buddy, Earl, Everett and Thomas Young; seven sisters, Exer Mae Johnson, Ruth Everette, Minnie Curry, Almatha Pascley, Ernestine Rogers, Lilly Mae Rogers, and Rogenie Rhyan. 

The family would like to extend their thanks to Odell’s caregivers, Mrs. Joyce Odd, Ms. Kathy Davis, Ms. Katrena Brown, Mrs. Evelyn McBride, Ms. Kasia McElroy, and Ms. Francine Napier. 

A funeral service will be held at New Zion Baptist Church on February 3^rd at 12:00 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior. Pastor Bobby Williams will officiate. Interment will follow at Alliance City Cemetery.
