Nelson S. Garnes Sr., age 76, of Alliance, died early Friday morning, at 6:50 a.m., May 1, 2020, at Aultman Alliance Community Hospital.
Nelson was born in Lisbon, Ohio to Ralph and Elma (Parsons) Garnes. He was a 1962 graduate of Sebring McKinley High School.
He was employed by Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg for over 30 years until retirement in 1994.
Nelson was a member of the First Church of God, where he taught Sunday school. He was also president of the Twilighter’s Group, served on the board of trustees, a past-president of the Men of the Church, and also chaired funeral dinners with his wife, Mary. Nelson was also an active member of the Chapter 5 CB Club, and The Golden Mike Club. He enjoyed camping, gardening, and working on old cars.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Williams) Garnes whom he married March 10, 1962; daughter Marie (Dwain) Unkefer of Beloit; two sons, Nelson (Shelley Pierce) Garnes of Beloit, and Ralph (Carmen) Garnes of Alliance; 5 grandchildren, Heather King, Meara Garnes, Emily Unkefer, Eric (Heather) Unkefer; one great-grandson Bryer Unkefer; one sister, Dolly (Gene) Morrison of Minerva; and brother Lawrence (Carolyn) Garnes of Alliance.
Nelson is preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson Brody Unkefer; and 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
A private service will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 5th with Pastor Dale Gruver officiating. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
