Matthew D. Anderson, Jr., age 90, of Alliance, passed away at 12:37 p.m. on August 24, 2023 at his home.
He was born on March 10, 1933, in Alliance, to Matthew Sr. and Ella Mae (Jenkins) Anderson.
A 1952 graduate of Alliance High School, Matt served in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married his wife Ruby in March of 1956. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Education from the University of Akron in 1973.
Matt was employed as an Assistant Unit Head for B&W Tubular Products in Alliance for nine years, a sales representative for Haver-Lockhart Laboratories, former coordinator of the Canton Boys Group Home, and retired director of the Wayne-Holmes Center in Wooster in February of 1998.
He served as trustee on several Stark County boards including Re-Entry Incorporated Massillon Pathway Group Home, the Domestic Violence shelter in Alliance and was a former member of the YMCA Youth Committee. Matt was a lifetime member of Second Baptist Church, a past member of Mt. Olive Lodge #66, lifetime member of Folgotha Commandery #36, Order of the Knights Templar, and former member of several masonic orders including 32 degree mason and Alkaf in Akron, Ohio.
His favorite pastimes were reading, traveling and baseball.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Ruby; daughter, Gail; son, Steven (Daneen); three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mable, Velma, Bertha and Helen; and a brother, Artis.
A funeral service will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 30th at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior.
