Mary Isabelle "Betty" (Garden) Schopp, age 98, formerly of Alliance, passed away at 4:15 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012, at The Inn at Belden Village in Canton.
She was born June 25, 1914, in Cleveland, Ohio, to David and Mary (McFarlane) Garden.
Mary graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1932 where she excelled in basketball and tennis. She then received her Bachelor in nursing from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1935 and was formerly employed at St. Lukes Hospital in Cleveland.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church for more than 50 years, charter member of the Post Script Club, Qui Vive and the Alliance Womens Club. She loved playing bridge and never passed up a chance to play it.
Suvivors include her son, Robert Schopp and daughter, Gretchen Johnson; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert L. Schopp, whom she married May 14, 1938 and who died in 1968; and a sister, Carol.
A private graveside service will be held at noon, Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at Alliance City Cemetery.
