Marvin "Wade" Main

July 1, 1939 — April 2, 2023

Marvin “Wade” Main, age 83, passed away on April 2, 2023.

He was born on July 1, 1939, in West Alexander, PA, to Lee Craig and Adelaide (Lamb) Main.

Wade graduated from West Alexander High School. Wade served honorably in Germany from 1961-1963 in the United States Army.  He worked for Richardson Gordon and Associates doing surveying for Interstate 70. Wade then worked as a lineman and supervisor at Ohio Bell for 29 and a half years until his retirement. After retiring, he drove school buses for Marlington Local Schools.

He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church where he was a trustee.  Wade was a Washington Township volunteer fireman for 49 years and has proudly served as their assistant fire chief since 1994.

Wade was a HAM radio operator, his call sign was WA8YAQ. He was also a member of the Ohio Telephone Pioneers and the Washington Ruritans Club. In 1984, for two weeks, he coordinated an 86 vehicle convoy, responsible for carrying the Olympic torch across the U.S.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Robert Lee (Patty) Main, Craig David (Amy) Main, and Carrie Jean (Brandon) Robson; grandchildren, Benjamin (Rachel), Nicholas, Richard “Hart”, Camryn (Matt) Thomsen, Robert “Bert”, Jenna, Lena and; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emmett, Landen, and Deacon; brother, Joe Main; and sister, Linda Bland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lou (Richey) Main whom he married August 23, 1963; his sister, Janet Main; and infant siblings, John Wayne and Ada Lee.

Visitations will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Thursday, April 6th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and another at Salem United Methodist Church on Friday, April 7th at 10:00 a.m. A Firefighter Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the church with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Marvin Wade Main Public Safety Memorial Scholarship through Consumers Bank.
