Marvin Howard Proctor, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. 

Marvin Howard Proctor, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. 

He was born on October 2, 1938, in Alliance, to William and Hattie (Mason) Proctor.

A graduate of Alliance High School, Marvin served honorably in the United States Army. He then worked as a foreman’s helper at Transue and Williams until his retirement and ran for city council and counsel at-large under the mentorship of Curvis F. Rhyne.

Marvin was a member of St. Luke AME Church, served as Past Master and Secretary for the Mt. Olive Lodge #66 F&AM and was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Bezaleel Consistory No. 15. He was also the former president of the Alliance Negro History Club, a former member of the Canton Negro Oldtimers Club, worked as a crossing guard for Alliance City Schools for 10 years and was a diehard Cleveland Browns and Ohio State fan.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Sandra (Covington) Proctor; children, Taylor Proctor, Tina (Perez) Proctor-Lemon and Victor (Valerie) Covington; grandchildren, Scott, Marcus, Michael, Jeremy, Lovely, Kiara and Perez, Jr.; 18 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; special friends, Winfred and Marion Young and Albert and Tamella Carter; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Proctor, Jr., Frances Paul Proctor and David Richard Proctor; and niece, Rev. Valerie Scott. 

A Masonic Service will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by military honors and funeral service on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Friends may pay their respects to Marvin and his family beginning at 11:00 a.m.
