Leona Jean (Wallace, Gill) Frederick, age, 93, passed away on June 10, 2025.
She was born October 19, 1931 to Clifford and Pearl (Brand) Wallace. Leona graduated from Louisville High School in 1949. They called themselves the 49’s. She worked for Cope Electric, Macomers of Fairhope, Alliance Machine Co, and ultimately retired from Job Training Partnership in Canton.
Leona lived in Ohio till the passing of her husband James Frederick, in August of 2018. She then moved to Thomasville, NC to live with her son and his wife, ultimately moving to Gibsonville, NC.
She was a member of Paris Israel Church in Paris, Ohio since 1945, also attending Salem Church of Alliance, Ohio. Leona was also a member of Big Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association of Ludington, MI, where her Great, Great, Great Grandfather was a Keeper, Carroll Chapter #315 of Ohio Eastern Star, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #9999, The Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem of Canton and PERI Public Employees Retirees Inc. of Ohio.
Her hobby was collecting new and used US postage stamps, which she started at a young age, continuing throughout her adult life. Ultimately, she started adding collections from other countries.
Leona enjoyed traveling with her husband, Jim, to different states in the USA, some to visit friends.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Randy Lynn (Frances) Gill; step-son, Stephan (Janet) Frederick of Louisville, OH; step-daughter, Jill (Dwayne) Snyder of Urbana, OH; granddaughter, Danyal Heinz of Fort Worth, TX; grandson, Mark (Jessica) Linsmaier of Yadkinville, NC; niece, Lynn (Bill) Foughty of Louisville, OH; granddaughter, Tabitha (Garland) Moore of Gibsonville, NC; grandson, Ben (Heather) Walker of McLeansville, NC; along with additional grandchildren and great grandchildren; and the many friends from Ohio with whom she kept in touch.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; infant brother, Marvin Wallace; daughter, Marla Jean Linsmaier; her sister and brother-in-law, Darleen and John Donald “Don” LaNave; and nephew, Michael LaNave.
A funeral services will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 18th at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation two hours prior.
