Leon Bell, 81, of Alliance, Ohio, lifted his eyes unto the hills one final time on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, and peacefully entered the arms of the Lord, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on February 17, 1944, to the late Tom Sr. and Lular (Kirksey) Bell, Leon learned early that his help came from the Lord—the Maker of heaven and earth—and he carried that promise faithfully throughout his life.
A devoted member of Second Baptist Church, served proudly in the United States Army, and a retiree of the Ohio Department of Transportation, Leon lived with quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and a heart that sheltered all who knew him. The Lord kept his steps steady, his spirit gentle, and his love abundant.
He is cherished by his beloved wife of 58 years, Vera, and their daughters Camille, Crystal, Carlita, and Margie (Darren) Carrington; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory four sisters, JoAnn Harrington, Marilyn (Rev. Michael) Long, Edna Williams, and Patricia Bell; two brothers, Rev. Willie (Deborah) Bell and Bertram (Ophelia) Bell; the Whitfield Family, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whose lives were touched by his gentle spirit.
Though preceded in death by his parents; sisters Maggie Bell, Lawngenous Jackson and Erma Willingham; and brother Tom Bell Jr., Leon now rests under the everlasting watch of the Keeper who neither slumbers nor sleeps.
The Lord has preserved his going out and his coming in, from this time forth, and even for evermore.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Second Baptist Church, with visitation from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. and services at 12 noon. Leon will be laid to rest at Alliance City Cemetery with military honors.
