JoAnn Hickerson

August 14, 1946 — April 18, 2024

JoAnn (Jackson) Hickerson, age 77, passed away on April 18, 2024 following a 2 years illness. 

She was born in Alliance, Ohio on August 14, 1946 to M. Lucille Schreckengost Jackson and Walter L. Jackson. She was an Alliance resident most of her life.

A 1964 graduate of Marlington High School, JoAnn also graduated with a teaching degree from Mount Union College. She was a teacher at Marlington Local School District for 35 years and a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School.

JoAnn was very active in the Alliance community as a member of the Jaycettes, led the Carnation Careful City program, was chaperone for nine Carnation Queens and Courts and was a high school band parents and Boy Scout parent for her three boys. JoAnn was very proud of her artistically talented Schreckengost family.  

Those left to cherish her memory are her three sons and their families, Scott (Lynne) Hickerson; Todd (Rebecca) Hickerson, and children, Morgan and Tristan; John (Jennifer) Hickerson and children, Jack and Julia. Also surviving are her sister, Janice (Larry) Baswell; and nieces, Beth Schick and Amy (Jason) Wittensoldner and children, Andrew and Addison; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her four grandparents; her parents; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date with cousin, Rev. D. Gary Schreckengost as officiant. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park with her parents.
