Joan V. Millar, age 96, passed away on June 11, 2023.

She was born on November 17, 1926, in Chicago, to Bertel and Veronica (Bredt) Akerman. Following, the death of her mother, she was raised by her aunt, Cecilia L. Bredt.

Joan earned her bachelor’s in education from Kalamazoo College in 1948 and a masters’ in education from the University of Wisconsin in 1952. She taught school until 1959.

Joan was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Alliance, Riverside, Illinois and Pittsburgh. She was a former member of the League of Women’s Voters, a Community Theater Director in Meadville, PA, and the “Story Lady” on T.V. in Meadeville. Joan drove for Meals on Wheels for 29 years in Pittsburgh.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, David (Wendy) Millar; five grandchildren, Joseph W. Millar, Michael W. Millar, Christopher J. Millar, Diana M. Daggett and Brian M. Daggett; and eight great-grandchildren, Mckenzie, Kennedie, Summer, Morty, Bennett, Jerry, and Jordan Millar and Damien Daggett.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Millar; and her siblings, Richard (Myrl) Akerman and Shirley (Charles) Bill.

A memorial service will be held on July 15th at 12:00 p.m. at First United Presbyterian, 265 W Beech St, Alliance, OH 44601.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Copeland Oaks Life Care Foundation, 715 S. Johnson Rd., Sebring, Ohio 44672.
