Horace M.C. Weatherspoon, age 88, of Alliance, passed away at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at his home.
He was born December 16, 1925, in Gary, Indiana, to Thomas and Polar Weatherspoon.
Mr. Weatherspoon was a veteran and retired Staff Sergeant of the United States Army having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and was recipient of the Bronze Battle Star. He also retired from American Steel Foundries.
He was a supportive and loving father who loved fishing, going to flea markets, watching Dallas Cowboys football and boxing. He enjoyed eating ice cream, talking to friends, and spending time with his daughter.
Survivors include his daughters, Courtney Weatherspoon, Claudia (Murphy) Tucker, Ruth Weatherspoon and Carol Weatherspoon, all of Alliance and Veronica Cowan of Mobile, Alabama; sons, Shannon Rowe of Alliance and Thomas (Loretta Cundiff) Weatherspoon of Canton; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; companion, Gloria Weatherspoon of Alliance; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, M.C. Weatherspoon; daughter, Charlotte Weatherspoon; brothers, Walter, Edward, and Zeke Weatherspoon; and sister, Lucinda Satchell.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Williams of Feed My Sheep Ministries officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
