Gunhild "Gunnie" Hunt

Gunhild E. Hunt, age 94, of Alliance, died Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Crandall Medical Center.
A lifelong resident of Alliance, Mrs. Hunt was born Christmas Day, 1918, to Elis and Anna (Andersson) Hanson. She was a 1936 graduate of Alliance High School. Gunnie and her husband Ralph owned and operated Hillcrest Market, where she served as secretary/treasurer for 35 years.
An active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and Naomi Circle, Gunhild was also a member and past president of the Alliance Women's Club and was Woman of the Year in 2008, member and past treasurer of Quota Club and Quotarian of the Year in 1996 and Mt. Union College Woman's Club. She was also a past member and vice president of the Republican Club, past secretary of the Parkway School P.T.A., former board member of the Y.W.C.A. and a member of the Red Cross Blood Program. Gunnie and her husband Ralph received the Community Legacy Award in 2001.
An avid sports fan, Gunnie was an active supporter of the Alliance Aviators, The Mount Union Purple Raiders and the Libertyville Wildcats. In support of her children and their friends, she was a member of the Alliance Booster Club and the Alliance Band Booster Club.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy (David) Kile of Jackson Township, Ohio and Martha (Randy) Kuceyeski of Libertyville, IL; sons, Richard (Carol) Hunt and Randall (Ann) Hunt, both of Alliance; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Hanson of Shaker Heights, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Hunt, whom she married on January 4, 1941, and who passed away on November 17, 2002; son, Ralph E. Hunt, Jr., who was a decorated Vietnam Veteran; and brother Arthur Hanson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday February 20, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established the Ralph E. and Gunhild E. Hunt Scholarship Fund at the University of Mount Union 1972 Clark Ave., Alliance, OH 44601 and the Ralph E. Hunt Jr., Memorial Scholarship at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 3295 S. Union Ave., Alliance, Oh 44601.
