Glen T. Crabtree, age 84, of Salem, formerly of Alliance, and Punta Gorda, Florida, died peacefully at 5:20 a.m., Monday, December 3, 2012, at Salem Community Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born April 11, 1928, in Freeport, Ohio, to Joseph A. Sr. and Gertrude L. (Cecil) Crabtree.
Glen worked as a truck driver for American Transport and a member of the Teamster's Local 92, in Canton.
He was a member of the First Church of God. His hobbies included gardening, working puzzles and word searches, and playing bingo and solitaire. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served his country in Korea during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda (Russell) Crabtree of Salem, whom he married January 26, 1952; three sons, Richard (Phyliss) Crabtree, Sr. of Canton, Donald (Mary) Crabtree, Sr. of Springfield and Kevin (Norma) Crabtree of Bellingham, WA; four daughters, Mildred Epperly of Salem, Linda Crabtree of Cleveland, Betty Crabtree of Salem and Sally (Thomas) Bennett, of Sebring; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Thompson of Mineral City; and two brothers, Eugene Crabtree of Uhrichsville and Joseph A. Crabtree, Jr. of Grand Junction, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Crabtree and Mary Burrier; and a brother, Clarence Crabtree.
Glen will be sadly missed by his friends and neighbors at Lincoln Place apartments and his McDonald's coffee buddies.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012, Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Peggy Hawkins officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, OH or to the Salem Salvation Army, 1249 N. Ellsworth Ave., Salem, OH 44460.
