Gerald "Jerry" Cox, age 86, of Alliance, closed his eyes at Davis Haven in Beloit, and opened them in glory at 12:27 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012.
Born August 4, 1925, in Putnam County, Indiana, to the late Gilbert and Lessie (O'Neal) Cox, he came to know Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 78.
Jerry was a 1943 graduate of Fillmore High School in Indiana, and was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp serving in World War II.
He retired from MPI Labels and had his own label business, Cox Enterprises, for a few years, which he enjoyed. He loved fishing, golfing; and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his two sons, Gary (Teri) Cox of Beloit and Phil (Debbie) Cox, of Alliance; grandchildren, Melissa, Jeremy and Chris Cox, and Carolyn Brewer and Andy Burgess; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his wife of 52 years, Betty Lou (Thomas) Cox; grandson, Jason Cox; sister, Marjorie Cash; and brother, Bobby Cox.
A special thanks to Sheila and Jim Davis for all the loving care they gave to "Grandpa" during his stay in their home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Rufus Hofelt of the First Baptist Church of Jackson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Davis Haven, 19690 Middletown Rd., Beloit, Ohio, 44609 or to the Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 886 S. Sawburg Rd., Suite 106, Alliance, Ohio44601.
