Gene P. Mathews, age 79, of Alliance, passed away at 11:25 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at Aultman Compassionate Care Center.
He was born June 18, 1934, in Salem to Myron and Florence (Williamson) Mathews.
Gene was a 1952 graduate of Canfield High School and a 1956 Graduate of Case Western Reserve University where he earned his B.S. in Industrial Chemistry. He then worked for 40 years for Monarch Rubber in Hartville.
He was a member of the Beechwood Christian Church where he served as a deacon. Gene also enjoyed playing his guitar and loved his kitty, Blacky.
Survivors include his wife of over 58 years, Patricia; two sons, Gary Howard Mathews of Ellsworth and James Frederick (Heather) Mathews of Alliance; and four grandchildren, Nicholas Porter Mathews, Spencer Christopher Mathews, Tanner James Mathews and Piper Lynne Mathews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Black officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
