Gene Carlile, age 93 passed away Friday, March 20, 2026 at Altercare with his family by his side.
He was born October 26, 1932, at home in Alliance, OH to Roscoe & Lois (Phillips) Carlile.
Gene graduated from Alliance High School in 1951. He married Virginia Rose Bowhall on October 28, 1951. They made their home in Limaville, OH in a house built by his grandfather, Jim, and his dad, Roscoe.
Gene provided for his family by being a truck driver. He first started driving in his teens, found that he loved it and made it a lifelong profession. He hauled steel for Victor "Shorty" Hanna then drove gas tankers for the Sun Oil Co. (Sunoco) in Akron, OH. On weekends, if needed, he drove for his friend Howard Kinsey of Kinsey Trucking. He retired from trucking in June 1987 from Sun Oil.
Gene attended Cornerstone Christian church in Alliance, OH.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the former J.E. McFadden Lodge #697 for over 60 years. They are now part of the Homeworth Conrad Lodge #241.
After retiring, Gene & Virginia spent many winters in Eustis, FL. When the weather was good in Ohio you would see them cruising on their motorcycles, browsing antique stores and flea markets. They also loved antique cars which they drove to all the nearby car shows. This provided them with several awards and trophies along with the many good friends they made travelling with the Tri-State Antique Car Club.
Gene is survived by sons, Dan (Deb) and Ron (Jeannette); grandchildren, Derek (Nikki) Carlile, Matthew (Chandra) Carlile, Lindsey (Chris) Patterson, & Kelsey Carlile; six great-grandchildren, Kensi, Trevor and Samantha Carlile, Marley Patterson and Tenley and Cooper Whitfield; his brother, Lloyd Carlile; along with many precious nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Virginia; infant daughters, Sandra Kay and Cathy Jo; and his parents.
The family wishes to thank the staff & care givers at Altercare and Absolute Hospice for your compassionate care. You are appreciated more than words can express.
