Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Grandfather
Gary passed away peacefully after a short illness on Monday, July 6, 2026. He was born in Alliance on May 28, 1954.
He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, devotion to family, exceptional skills in his field restoring classic cars, and his love of music - specifically classic rock tunes. His skills as a drummer will forever be the beats in our hearts. Gary was a 1972 graduate of Marlington HS.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn (Hoover) Caywood; and his parents, Gerald and Mary Hoover.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sally (Haidet) Hoover; daughter, Amy Hoover Long; son-in-law, Beau Long; grandsons, Nick and Alex Caywood; sister, Linda (Hoover) Pauli; and brother-in-law, Mike Pauli; as well as countless other family members and friends. Family and friends were a constant source of joy for him.
A celebration of life will be held at the Elks Lodge in Alliance on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 2pm - 5pm.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alliance Community Food Pantry or an animal rescue of your choice. He loved his cats nearly as much as his children.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cassady-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
