Eugene A. Devies, age 87, passed away on June 16, 2026. He was born on June 16, 1939 to Eugene C. and Geraldine V. Devies
Gene graduated from Marlboro High School in 1957 and then obtained his bachelors and masters in education from Kent State University. Gene worked as a guidance counselor at West Branch High School for 33 years until his retirement. He also served on the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department since the age of 15. Gene served as the Assistant Chief from July 18, 1978 to December 31, 1979. He then served as Chief from January 1, 1980 to December 31, 1994 when he retired.
Gene was a lifetime member of the Alliance Elks and coached boys and girls track and football at West Branch for many years. He loved spending time with his family and traveling to their favorite places. Gene always looked forward to going to casinos in Las Vegas and Biloxi, Mississippi. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Marilyn B. (Krahling) Devies whom he married on June 9, 1962; his sons, Rob (Judy) Devies and Mike (Julie) Devies; brothers, Dr. Robert Devies and Chief Ron (Barb) Devies; sister-in-law, Kathy Devies; grandchildren, Tiffany (Ryan) Cartwright, Ryan (Emily) Devies, Dr. Brittany Devies, and Marcus Devies; great-grandchildren, Zander, Gavin, Harper and Maverick; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chief Denny Devies; and sister-in-law, Dr. Theresa Devies.
A visitation will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Saturday, June 20th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. with a Last Bell Service to follow.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Chris from Aultman Hospice for her care, along with Aultman Compassionate Care Center for everything they have done.
