Elizabeth (Liz) Myers Shelt, 79, passed away at her home, in Sebring, on February 12th, 2013, following a brief illness.
The daughter of Dr. Roy H. and Marjorie Elizabeth (James) Clunk, she is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Shelt; her brother, Judge R.R. Dennis Clunk; three step-children, Jennifer Shelt, Amanda Miller, and Ryan Shelt; six step-grandchildren, Kathryn and Mackenzie Miller, Forest and Maddilyn Shelt, and Alexander and Caroline Wolfe. Prior to her marriage to Tom, Liz was married to Charles N. (Pete) Myers, who died in 1973.
Liz was preceded in death by her son, Richard N. Myers, who died in 2006; and a grandson, Cory N. Myers, who died in infancy.
Born and raised in Massillon, Liz graduated from Washington High School in 1951, and earned a degree in Education from Ohio Wesleyan. She taught science in the Massillon school system from 1955-1987, where she was the citywide Science chairman. Liz managed the Knights of Columbus Swim Club in Massillon and taught swimming through the Red Cross. She was active throughout her life in civic and charitable activities, and served on the boards of the Massillon Museum, the Massillon YMCA, the Western Stark County Red Cross, the Rockwood Park Association at Leesville Lake, and St. John's Villa. She served as treasurer of Paris Israel Church, and was a longtime volunteer with the Alliance Hospice program.
Calling hours will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home in Alliance from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2013, and 1-2 p.m., Monday, with a Memorial Service beginning at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Alliance Hospice, 885 S. Sawburg Rd., Alliance, Ohio 44601, or to a favorite charity.
Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave., Alliance, OH 44601.
