Duane Vincent Austin, age 87, of Limaville, died Friday, December 14, 2012, at his home.
He was born March 9, 1925, in Marlboro, Ohio, to Ray and Anna (Leitner) Austin.
Duane graduated in 1946 from Alliance High School after serving three years in the European Theater during World War II in the United States Army. Three bronze stars were earned experiencing the D-Day Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Returning to Alliance, he married Betty (Young) Austin, and in time settled in Homeworth, as a dairy farmer and an electrician at Alliance Machine Company.
Survivors include his present wife of 29 years, Joyce (Hart) Austin of Limaville; children, Rev. Ted (Cathy) of Sandusky, Vincent of South Carolina, Cathy Kimble of Alliance, Bonnie (Ron) Ferry of Warren, Russell (Diana) of Alliance, Jeannette (Ron) Carlile of Limaville, David (Trisha) of Alliance, Karl (Barb) of South Carolina, Harold (Darla) of Homeworth and Carol (Bryan) Mikes of Alliance; stepdaughter, Cynthia Bates of Tennessee; stepson, Martin (Diane) Bates of Limaville; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings; and his first wife, Betty, who is the mother of Duane's ten children.
A graveside committal service, with military honors, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at Marlboro Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Atwater Congregational Church, 1237 Rt. 183, Atwater, Ohio 44201 with Pastor Richard Hall and Rev. William Witt co-officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
