Dorothy (May) Oyster, age 98 of Alliance, passed away at 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Crandall Medical Center, Copeland Oaks in Sebring.
She was born on January 20, 1927 in Alliance, OH to Anna (Haines) May and Charles Frederick May and lived in the Alliance area her entire life. Dorothy was a 1945 graduate of Sebring McKinley High School. She was employed as a secretary for Mount Union College, Alliance Manufacturing, and St Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Dorothy attended Science Hill Community Church. In years past she sang in church choirs and was a member of Modern Homemakers Club. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, flower gardening, music, traveling and dancing with her beloved husband. She loved to attend garage sales, and shopping for bargains.
Her favorite pastime was devotion to her family through visits, hosting meals, and daily prayers for them.
She is survived by children, Duane (Michelle Jaworski) Oyster of Alliance, OH, Dean (Rhonda Buck) Oyster of Denver, NC, and Denise (Oyster) (Michael R) ONeal of Ligonier, PA. Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Sarah (Geoff) Brogan, Jennifer McGoff, Jill (Danny) Wilson, Daniel (Lauren) ONeal; and four step- grandchildren, Michael S (Elvira) ONeal, Amber Millerchip, Rob (Alyssa) Jaworski, and Alexis Jaworski. She cherished her precious great-grandchildren, Emily Moore, Chloe and Connor McGoff, Amelia and Andrew Wilson, Luke ONeal, and step-great-grandchildren, Ashley ONeal, Ella Millerchip, and Riley Jaworski. Also surviving her are brothers-in-law, Herbert Oyster of Alliance, Ray (Pat) Oyster of Columbus, GA, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Melvin F. Oyster; her parents, Anna and Charles May; four sisters, Catherine Wurgler Taylor, Marilyn (Ray) Bash, Mary Ann (Roland) Rudolph, and Margie (David) Legros; and in-laws, Ruth and Melvin “Bummie” Snode, Beverly and Jay Karlen, and Joan Oyster; and several nieces & nephews.
Friends may call at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Sunday, January 25th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. or at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 26th prior to the funeral service.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26th with Pastor Jonathan Truax officiating.
Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
The family appreciates the loving care Dorothy received from the staffs of Crandall Medical Center, Copeland Oaks and Aultman-Alliance Hospice.
