“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
Dorothy Uldine King 92, of Alliance, OH, died April 27, 2024, after living a long, wonderful life that was defined by family, faith, deep friendships, and the enormous amount of love that she both gave and received. The greatest joy of her life was her family, and this was reflected in her calling as a mother: she was not simply a mother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but she was also a mother-figure for the children she served at Childtime Daycare for over nearly two decades, as well as for her entire extended family, especially in the latter years of her life.
For three decades, she was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Oakwood Village, Ohio, where she served on the Ushers’ Board and the Mothers’ Board. Mrs. King was highly engaged in the life of the church, where she was an active presence, a friend, a counselor, and a beloved source of support to so many of the
people who were part of the community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren S. King; her son, Warren S. King, Jr.; her parents; her stepmother; five brothers, Louis, Homer “Guy”, Claude “Big”, Mark, and Glenn; and three sisters, Vera, Genevieve, and Beverly.
Mrs. King is survived by her children, Cynthia (Michael) Hawkins of Ormond Beach, FL; Gill (Leisa) King of Lawrenceville, GA; Gregory (Callie) King of Alliance, OH; and Nancy Oliver of Alliance, OH who she often referred to as a daughter; her sister, Ruby Turner of Cleveland, OH; her brother, Finley Smith, of Bloomingdale, OH; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services for Mrs. King, will be at noon on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home in Alliance. Calling hours will be at the same location on May 3, from 10 a.m. to noon. She will be buried at Alliance City Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Warren S. King, and her son, Warren S. King, Jr.
