Dorena Ann Mathey

Dorena Ann Mathey, age 81, passed away on August 4, 2026.

She was born on May 12, 1945, in Alliance, to Frederick Charles and Dorothy (Smith) Hurford.

Dorena taught at First Baptist Church. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Dorena loved to crochet and take nature photos. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and helped with the Alliance Band Uniforms.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Michelle (David) Smith and Steven (Melissa) Mathey; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dan Hurford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Mathey who passed in 1977; and two brothers.

A funeral service will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Monday, August 10th at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
