Donna Jean (Emery) Hoover

October 6, 1924 — July 28, 2023

Donna Jean (Emery) Hoover, age 98, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, July 28, 2023.

She was born in Alliance on October 6, 1924 to Norman J. and Nellie (Battershell) Emery.

Donna graduated from Alliance High School in 1942 having served as Class Secretary/Treasurer for the past 55 years.  She went on to attend Alliance Business College.

Donna was an active member of the Science Hill Church Community for 58 years serving on various committees.  She was a charter member of the Lexington Grange and also a charter member of the Modern Homemaker’s Club.  She also served several years as a Den Mother and worked 20 years on the Election Board.  Donna was a volunteer for over 25 years with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.  She was also a member of the Christian Women’s Club for 25 years.

Donna was a worldwide traveler having been to all 50 states and 34 countries around the world, some of them more than once. Donna had been to all the continents except for Antarctica.  She was also an avid quilt maker, having made 57 queen sized quilts. But most of all she really enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald H. Hoover, who passed away on January 1, 1996 after 50 years of marriage (October 19, 1945); son, Gerald R. (Suzette) Hoover; sisters, Lois A. Frederick and O. Jane Ruthrauff.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Larry W. (Bonnie) Hoover of Johnson City, TN. Ronald L. (Sherry) Hoover of Litchfield, OH; daughter, Carol J. (Stephen) Hornbrook of Peoria, IL; 10 grandchildren; Dr. Randy (Heather) Hoover, Sarah (Wayne) Turbyfield, all of Johnson City, TN., Tiffany (Brandon) Easton of Litchfield, OH., Ryan (Mallori) Hoover of Selma, NC., Andrew (Deborah) Hoover of Acworth, GA. Kathrine (Erik) Kraus of Alliance, OH., Benjamin (Jessica) Hoover of North Canton, OH., Daniel Hornbrook of Camden, OH. (Jenny Hornbrook), Timothy (Heejin) Hornbrook of South Korea, Rebecca (Joshua) Peppers of Bluffton, IN; 25 great- grandchildren, Owen, Violet, Maggie, Sydney, Henry, Kaden, Avery, Makynzie, Finley, Emery, Sadie, Bowen, Ellena, Emily, Natalie, Miles, Isabella, Elena, Regan, Rachel, Bethany, Hope, Luka, Micah, and Madalynn.

Visitation will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Thursday, August 3rd from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jon Truax officiating.  She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Marlboro Cemetery.
