Beverly Ann McCown

“Together Again”-- Beverly Ann McCown, age 87, of Alliance passed away on January 16, 2022.

She was born on April 12, 1934 in Alliance to Herman E. Michalk and Isabella (Pearson) Michalk.

Beverly graduated from Alliance High School in 1951. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Kent State in 1971 and SLD and SBD from Walsh 1980. Beverly taught for Minerva local Jr. High from 1980-1995 and was a substitute teacher for Alliance and Marlington schools.

She was a member of First Christian Disciple of Christ since 1934 and held various offices there including Deaconess, Elder, Recording Secretary of Board, World Outreach Committee, McGavern Circle, food pantry and Sunday school teacher. Beverly was a Girl Scout leader for 27 years and a 4H leader in Minerva and Alliance for over 15 years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, AARP and a Daughter of Scotland Lodge. Beverly rode her horse “Mr.Snowman” in the Carnation Parade for 30 years and was awarded Equestrian Grandman in 1994. She was also a member of Ohio’s Horseman’s Council and a volunteer at Pegasus Farms where she received the “Volunteer of the Year Award”.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, David Edward McCown and Lenard C. McCown; daughters, Kim I. Dursik, Karen Sue Nonno and Ann Louise McCown; six grandchildren; many great- grandchildren; sister, Billie Irene Rowe; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, David. L. McCown whom she married on April 26, 1953 and who passed on July 9, 1999; her sister, Isabel Clara Kennedy; brother, Robert Edward Michalk; and her grandson, Adam Dursik.

A funeral service will be held at First Christian Church on Friday, January 21st at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park.
