Benjamin Byrne

Benjamin L. Byrne, age 62, of Homeworth, passed away at 11:56 p.m. August 3, 2012, at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born July 2, 1950, in Alliance, Ohio to Donn K. and Sharlet (Bandy) Byrne.
A 1968 graduate of Minerva High School, Ben was employed as a welder for Penn Central Railroad and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 2010.
Ben enjoyed spending time with his family, was a civil war enthusiast, and enjoyed searching for, and collecting primitive antique furniture.
Survivors include his mother, Sharlet Byrne of Alliance; wife, Shelly (Sutton) Byrne, whom he married Feb. 12, 1970; son Ethan (Ashley) Byrne of Salem; granddaughters, Harper and Hadleigh; sisters, Melody (Howard) Barnes, of Minerva and Dixie (Stefan) Gernaga, of Sarasota, Florida; brother, Dan Byrne of Sarasota, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, and granddaughter, Hannah.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the Freeburg Church of the Brethren with Pastor Mike Zellers officiating. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service, at the church. Interment will be at the Freeburg Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to the Freeburg Church of the Brethren, 4470 Beechwood Ave. NE, Alliance, Ohio.
