Audrey Earlene Fox, age 99, of Marlboro, passed away peacefully on June 19th at Altercare of Alliance.
She was born on April 15, 1926 to Earl and Vada (Oswalt) Bettis. A 1944 graduate of Alliance High School, Audrey spent her formative years being an important part of her family's grocery business in Bolton, Bettis Market.
She married the love of her life on March 15, 1947, and on that day began fulfilling the purpose to which she felt she was called, being a loving wife and eventually a devoted mother to her four children.
Audrey enjoyed a variety of things that included keeping her home tidy, tending to her flower beds, reading, and backyard birdwatching. She loved hearing the call of the cardinals and would often answer their call by saying "yes, you're pretty, pretty, pretty."
Like her father, she enjoyed listening to the Cleveland Indians on the radio or watching them on TV if possible. She proudly served as a poll worker on election days for 39 years and provided care for several local children in her home after her own children entered school.
She loved to travel and took numerous bus tours and extended trips with her husband Wade, especially after his retirement in 1989. By far her favorite thing to do was dance, and she attended scores of dances with Wade, including the most special one where they met.
Survivors who will miss her dearly include two daughters, Denise (David) Owen, Paula (Jeffrey) Baker; two sons, Dana (Barbara) Fox and Alan (Deborah) Fox; grandchildren David (Jeni) Owen, Amy (James) Ferguson, Jonathan (Joelle) Owen, Janelle (Rich) Hart, Keara (Dan) Koehler, Brent (Michelle) Fox, Emily (Ryan) Holzer, Katie (Spencer) Greer, Abbie (Jacob) Sutton, Rachel (Jacob) Peters, Mary (Chris) Hershberger, and Naomi (Christopher) Stevens; and 24 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Wendell, and her husband Wade who died in 2018 and to whom she was married for 71 years.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday June 28 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Cochran officiating. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m.
Private Family Interment will be at Marlboro Cemetery.
