Albert Leonard Thompson, age 93, passed away on September 25, 2025.
He was born on December 21, 1931, in Youngstown Ohio.
Albert obtained a Bachelor’s degree in education. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Albert was a member of Lompoc Valley Botanic and Horticultural Society, Santa Barbara Rose Society, American Rose Society, Rose Hybridizers Assoc., Lomopoc City, and Beautification Commissioner.
Albert wrote a weekly column called “Down To Earth” for The Lompoc Record, helped outline The Time Life book “Roses” and wrote poetry. He also founded Lompoc Civic Theater where he acted, directed, and was a playwright. Albert was a trained docent at both the Garden Historian at La Purisima Mission State Historic Park and the Arroyo Hondo Preserve, Santa Barbara Gaviota Coast.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Helen Jean Smith; nieces, Karen Currey, Linda Leb, and Judy Torrence.
