Ruth Elinor Gatrell, age 86, passed away on Monday, September 2nd, 2019, surrounded by her family.
Ruth was born on October 23rd, 1932, in Youngstown, Ohio, and was raised by her father John Harris.
She graduated from Jackson-Milton High School on May 25th, 1951. She married the love of her life, Russell Gatrell on September 8th, 1951. Russ and Ruth had four children, Susan (Randy) Markham, Barbara (Greg) Sivert, Gary (Bernice) Gatrell and Greg Gatrell.
Everyone familiar with Ruth knew her to be a very loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. Her proudest accomplishment in addition to her family, was the founding of Cutty's Sunset Camping Resort in Marlboro. Starting with almost nothing, Ruth worked alongside her husband and children from 1971 to 2016 to grow and develop the family business, which became a popular vacation destination and beloved home to many people throughout the years.
Ruth was a long-time member of the Marlboro Christian Church. Her affiliations include Tadmor Shriners, Alliance Ladies Shrine, Eastern Star and BPO Elks.
Survivors include her children; grandchildren, Paul, Jackie, Chrissy, Scott, Jennifer, Sarah, Michael and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Alissa, Emma, Kiersten, Addison, Heaven, Dakota, Seth, Lauren, Levi, Owen and Ciara; and her sister, Marline (Quentin) Cormell.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2018 and her parents.
Services will be held at Marlboro Christian Church on Friday, September 6th at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ed Harnish officiating. Friends may call on Thursday, September 5th from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday at Marlboro Christian Church, 9383 Edison St. N.E., Alliance, OH. Interment will be at Marlboro Cemetery.
